Deep shelf-pity

I’m going to be honest I have been suffering from some shelf-pity – rather deep shelf-pity. My very own kitchen pantry is at the heart of my anxiety. You see; my pantry has very deep shelves. Deep shelves are a worst nightmare to any cupboard or pantry. The challenge is always being able to reach at the back as well as the front while trying to keep everything in the middle not chaotic and accessible.

In my unlimited budgeted world I would have ripped out all these shelves and started over with a wall mounted adjustable system, which would provide shallower shelves and would wrap around the corners and travel along the sides of the pantry. But spending hundreds on my pantry wasn’t an option this time. Instead I focussed on the small resources I could pull together to make this pantry harmonious.
In my DO.over I:
- bought some lazy-susans! These are from Kmart and are such great quality for $7
- bought plastic pull-outs and black mesh shelves (also from Kmart) and created my own shelving within a shelf
- removed some metal shelves that weren’t helping (top right) -don’t be afraid to get rid of something!
- bought a kitchen trolley, that’s on wheels
- and labelled!

I think the secret is a layered approach. Lazy-susans in the front and shelves in the back to stack containers. Also, creating shelving on the shelf with the pull-out tubs creates clear, separate areas for all your pantry supplies.
With my shelves now tackled, I feel my deep shelf-pity has been transformed into a healthy dose of high shelf-esteem. You be the judge.
P.s. Hubby is happy too, says it feels less claustrophobic!
